On Wednesday it was VJC's annual A.I.R. - Arts In Reality 2007. Or Arts Day in layman terms. No lessons until 12.45, and we spent the bulk of the day involved in events organized specially for the occasion, like participating in my first Forum Theatre session, and going to this Cages forum in LT5. At first I thought it was going to be some Q&A lame-o session about the movie, but it turned out to be more of a talk about preperation for making a movie, all the pre-production stuff, how the movie was packaged to appeal to the different consumers, etc. Tan Kheng Hua is a very vivacious person. It was all unexpectedly interesting.

And then we went to the concourse to watch the SAF band performing in their uniforms AND I MET CHARLIE.

He's the band's lead singer, who looks rather geeky at first sight, who doesn't look very tall, but oh my god, his voice is absolutely gorgeous. It's all deep and husky and SONOROUS and drop dead SEXY. I fell in love with him after the first 2 songs, after he told the audience to "take my hand, take my whole life too" in a very slow, extremely dreamy rendition of Can't help falling in love and I was screaming in my head YES LET ME! Seriously, when he smiles right, the left side of his lips kind of quirks up in this absolutely adorable way and he'll like run his fingers through his hair uncounsciously and it's all so freaking HOT. Every single time he did that I felt like I was starting to melt into a gooey mess. This was because I was seated in the front row right in front of the band unable to do anything about his smothering appeal. And his rendition of Radiohead's Creep was simply rocking! He can like. Sound angsty at all the approprate times. Put on a falsetto. Croon. Very versatile. Ahhh. Sara and Melissa and I were absolutely taken with him. So much that I went home to google him and search for him on Friendster (and I found him, of course. My god he's only 19!). Sadly, he's attached (like I knew he would be. Sniff. He was totally giving off the attached vibes). From his profile, he seems like an intelligent man of depth and humour. Sara moaned when I told her over sms about his taken status. Like, why are all the good catches taken? Indeed. :(

But that's okay, because I can just oogle him from afar. And go support him at his gigs in future! He's good okay he's played at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre before. (I hope neither he nor his friends come across this impassioned entry about how hot he is. God, how embarrassing.)

Next, away from sexy and dreamy guys and about more mundane matters, I'm blogging about Nicky's birthday present. Dev bought him a Billabong (uh. I swore never to purchase anything Billabong ever again, but it's Dev what so that's fine) pencil case and one of those little voodoo dolls from Mini Toons. It's a ninja with this tiny sword sticking out of its fist. I guess. So anyway I was in charge of wrapping it lah, and you know the adrenaline rush from surprising Lijie was still there, so I made this little placard that goes To Nicky With Love and stuck it in so that when he unzips it'll be all "Surprise! Surprise!" and I set the pencil case and its ninja keychain in a Japanese chocolate biscuit box so he'd think we WERE giving him biscuits, but aha, "surprise! Surprise!" Something like that lah I think I was just too free. What with putting off Tutorial 4.2 because it involves weird creepy graphs and doing my PW Preliminary Idea (PI).

Anyway, on Thursday after school Jia, Dev and I set off for TJ to surprise Nicky with his present. Yes, I know his birthday was over ages ago. Anyway-

F- IT! How did I get another mosquito bite WHILE I was checking the mosquito bite I got on the arm?? HOW??

- the point being, we kind of missed the stop. All of us were like, TJ is going to appear on the right side of the bus. So we stood facing the right side. Then we started talking. And then we realised we were at Bedok.

"Uh, TJ in Bedok one meh?"
"No what, TJ in.. Temasek."
"Hahaha skali it's that Pansanoic building we saw just now."

So after ascertaining that we must have missed the stop, we got off at Bedok MRT station and crossed the underpass to the other side of the road, where we met some girls in ugly green uniforms and I was mentally dismissing them as little secondary school girls from Pasir Ris Sec or something (haha I know, random) when Dev went, at least we know we're on the right track, and I'm like, huh what? and he goes, those were TJ students right? and I'm like, REALLY?

When we got on the bus going in the opposite direction, Dev asked the bus driver where TJ was, and it turned out it was 3 stops away. Meaning it's damn near our school lah. This time, we shut up and scruntinized every building really closely, and this time we saw buildings which looked like they belonged to a school appear on the left side, and we're like OHO! That must be TJ! (But I can't figure out how come we missed the school in the first place. It's like so in-your-face. And we were facing the correct side previously, what.)

Then we got down and summoned Nicky via Dev's handphone. As the main point was to get him to come to the gate, we started saying lots of strange things like how I wanted to lend him my GP notes because I know his GP sucks. I think we puzzled the hell out of the poor guy. And because we forgot to tell him we were at the back gate, he went to the front gate first, and when he called us back we were like, "we're at the small gate behind the grandstands and we can see hockey players," and he's like "huh WHERE?" I don't think he knows his way around the school very well yet -.- (Or maybe we just gave lousy directions lol)

Eventually he made his way to us. We waved crazily from the distance! I mean, not having seen him in ages. Anyway we stood and talked a bit before presenting him with his present in a brown paper bag. I said my GP notes were in there and I think he knew we were talking shit lah (obviously, haha), but he played along and "huh"ed at appropriate moments.

So after he found out what his gifts were (he actually thought we'd forgotten about his birthday! That we wouldn't be giving him presents! The NERVE of that guy), we stood and talked even more, and there was a lot of uncontrollable laughing and stupid things said, and damn I miss the good old days when the 4 of us would fool around in class. But because Jia had to go back to cheerleading and Nicky had track at 5, we went our own ways after that.

Oh heck I can't blog anymore I have MATH TUTORIAL 4.2 AND ECONS TUTORIAL TO FINISH! Because I must uphold my rep as the-only-one-who-prepares-her-econs-tutorial-in-class. It's not something you should be like insanely proud of lah, because oh god I feel like such a geek whenever I'm the only one to raise my hand about doing my econs homework (Sok Muui and Xinyun also got do! They just never raised their hands -.- They say they're not prepared). But as I'm also the econs rep I must at least make Mrs Tan like me a fair bit right.

Hello, here I am blogging during the weekend like I said I would :D Never mind that I said that last week, but the important thing is that I am blogging again!

Many, many important events, first and foremost Lijie's birthday on 23 Mar.

See, Sok Mui and I decided to get Lijie a surprise cake for her birthday, but Naomi kind of made it a little too obvious by calling her and asking her what sort of flavour she likes for cake. Hence, I was all OMG Lijie I'm so sorry I forgot to bring your cake today! Sok Mui refused to believe Lijie would believe me but, because I have superb acting skills, Lijie didn't suspect anything, after I grovelled for her forgiveness blah blah sorry I forgot your cake (none of them sincere of course ahaha), I told her over sms that "I'm sure the day will be full of surprise for you". Yay!

So after PW, I went to Parkway by myself (Sok Mui had CIC interview) and met Ain, Mas and Maryam on the bus, also on the way to Parkway. Exchanged social information about ex-classmates (lololol) then went to Breadtalk to get the souffle-looking chocolate cake we'd reserved on Tuesday. I then acted all suspicious and spy-ish and called Sok Mui to "make sure Lijie sits backfacing the entrance from the canteen" in the concourse so we could sneak up on her and be all Lijie ah. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (I have always wanted to throw a sort of surprise birthday party for people.) Sok Mui came to receive me at the gate and we prepared the cake in the canteen, borrowed a lighter from the western food stall people and lighted the candle, then snuck into the concourse (wth Lijie's profile was like facing the entrance lah how to sneak in). Hahaha Naomi saw me gui gui sui sui-ing! Somehow I managed to creep up behind her with the cake and everything went according to plan and we sang Happy birthday to you and then the camwhoring started :D

Naomi kept saying she was very hungry and wanted to eat the cake so Lijie had to push her away.

After 625481 photos (a lot of which I didn't show, for obvious reasons), we finally started the cake cutting.

As the cake was very tall many people tried to help Lijie, who looked quite inexperinced with tall cakes, cut the cake. That hand actually belongs to Huizhen.

The cake was simply gorgeous. Very thick layers of gooey chocolate and mousse. We should all just start ordering cakes from bread shops (further point of evidence would be Four Leaves and their fabulous Chocolate Exotica, my birthday cake for last year).

Lijie stuffing her face :)

And then Lijie, Wen, Shunwei, Shuling, Huizhen and I proceeded to Chomp Chomp for dinner. Apparently the last (and first) time these people went to Chomp Chomp, they got hopelessly lost and had to spend about an hour on foot in the dark to finally steer themselves in the right direction. The Urban Hike Club, of which I am now Head of Publicity of, was also formed during then.

This time, we got off at the wrong bus stop, but it was rectified by walking to the correct one 15 minutes away and then taking some random ulu bus which I have never seen before in my entire life. Thankfully we arrived at Chomp Chomp safe and sound before 8.

We ordered all the foods that would send us to cholestrol and calorie heaven - sambal stingray, sambal kangkong, sambal sotong, oyster omelette and satay. My God. The amount of oil we ingested can be used to power electricity at home for a day. And then when Lijie offered to treat us to drinks, I had no idea the total cost would be $9 -.- But that was before the drinks came and it turned out the cups were this size:

But this is the size Huizhen and Shuling shared lah. Mine was smaller. Like, only 1 litre of grass jelly drink.

Remains of dinner.

Ahahaha Lijie looking super tak glam.

The others say that the food wasn't as good as last time; many dishes like the sotong, stingray and kangkong weren't spicy enough and were in fact quite bland. But the satay was totally JIA and the oyster omelette was satisfying :D I have had a craving for oyster omelette since the start of the year, ever since I saw that huge picture of it on the signboard of this particular hawker centre everytime I took 55 home and passed it by, and I only satisfied it last Friday.

Now must go and bathe and meet my mother at Bugis already I will blog VERY soon!

NETBALL CAMP OVERNIGHT IN SCHOOL.

The camp schedule is like only 10cm long in Times New Roman 12pt because there are only a few large blocks of 3 to 4 hours each and they are all used for training/friendly matches/training/friendly matches. So.. off to camp! Be back on Thursday. :D

Yay Mr Chan. Under unorthodox soliciting from his students (like how all the announcements during assembly today seemed to all end with "please meet half hour after dismissal today" or "sports heats will start soon after dismissal"), he gave in and dismissed us on the spot during assembly! Because VJ did well for the As and Mrs Chan, the ex-principal, was all "now you all must demand for half day. Then demand for whole day. Then demand for two days". Apparently when she was principal, she had a habit of giving the school so many half days whenever there was a joyous occasion that the seniors couldn't finish their syllabus and had to come back during hols for supplementary lessons.

But OGL training started at 11.30 and we were free to go at like 8.30am. -.- To kill time, a group of us went to BK at the airport BUT for SOME reason the BK there didn't sell single Crossan'wich breakfast set! They only had double which was like $1.50 more expensive. !! Qiao zha! Extortion! I was outraged and refused to patronize them (even though I was the one who got everyone to travel 15mins to the airport so I could have my Turkey Ham Crossan'wich. Shhhh). So Jia suggested McDonald's and we each ingested about 620 calories (for the Big Breakfast/Hotcake set) and 120 calories (for the sinful greasy absolutely delicious hasbrown) that morning. But Wei Ching gave me half her sausage because she was a semi-vegeterian (only chicken meat) and I ended up not being able to finish my BB. And it was my first BB in like 4 years! In turn leading to me being unable to fully savour my hashbrown. Which is a sad thing because McDonald hashbrowns are freaking expensive and I don't get many chances to eat them :(

Anyway we played Asshole daidi in Mc's and this guy came over and told us "Mams" we weren't supposed to play cards because it was "against the law". Yeah okay. So we played only after we were out of Mc's and waiting for 36 to go back to the bus. Wei Ching had sprained her ankle and could only hobble pitifully after us :D Poor girl. And she's an OGL some more leh.

OGL training was just. Sweaty. We did all the mass dances once more, revised Friendship dance and I want you (which I STILL DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO and I am an OGL). I'm quite good at Friendship dance already thanks to all the practising we did yesterday in Jia's house. Ahahah. More about that later.

So O2 has the same theme as O1 - Pirates and Patriots, because the school's already printed the 2007 Orientation logo bearing this theme on a lot of shoebags. So doesn't make sense to waste all of these shoebags right. I'm an OGL in Incas and we are a Pirate this time. Incas is the son of the Sun God. Who can summon rain and the sun at his whim. It sounds really good in the orientation booklet, I wonder who wrote the story for Incas. My fellow OGLs were very sporting with coming up with cheers, although while in the midst of this cheer-brainstorming we got seduced by the mass dance music and ended up completing both Whiny whiny and Neutron dance. And Dominic, our OG head, got very exasperated at this show of weak willpower :P

ANYWAY I still have to blog about Jia's HOUSEWARMING PARTY at her new house in YISHUN. Here are many pictures.

Us on the way towards her condo unit, in this little passageway lined with bamboo trees on both sides. Unfortunately my camwhoring skills are amaterish.

Cannot get everyone inside again.

The best I could do :(

Jia's house is kind of this really tall 3-storey condo block with a basement and rooftop garden that's all hers. It's really really really cool.

This staircase repeats from the basement until the rooftop garden! Which I got locked into because Lijie was being annoying -.- And Jia wouldn't let me out.. because.. she's.. fallen in love with Lijie T_T

We played cards most of the time in her house. Except for this one hour period where the Victorians sans Sasa were learning Friendship dance. Jia and I tried to teach Dev his part so that he would be all suave and graceful and charm the socks off all the girls during O2 and make them all want to dance with him :D

After lunch and a very flavourful suan cai tang we did some photo-taking.

Dev in a photo by himself, FOR ONCE not looking spastic!

Shunwei looking.. uh like Shunwei. I dunno who took this picture.

Sasa the shark and Wenwen the whale.

Me minding my business and shuffling the cards.

Then someone told me to look super emo and I could only pout and Jia opened her mouth.

Lijie is very happy -.-

Me and Jia and Dev do not know how to take self-portraits properly.

I forgot to circle Sasa's face in red!!

When we were all in Jia's lovely room and playing cards. I dunno why Wenwen's face like that. Then Jia's annoying little 5 year old cousin came in and sat down on our cards and started throwing them everywhere and wouldn't/COULDN'T BE stopped! All while Jia was out of the house trying to book the Pool table! Shrewd little bas- squirt. And then he suddenly ran out of the room screaming and we slammed the door shut and LOCKED it and threw our heads back in triumphant laughter.

Played very very very entertaining asshole daidi in the basement, with Sasa winning an award for most accomplished toilet cleaner/asshole, until 9 and it was time to go home because various members of the group had not yet managed to finish their GP homework. The bus stop where we took 804 back to the bus interchange had no roof! It was only this.. STAND! How weird!

Tomorrow's posting results, there's no school and I AM GOING SHOPPING!

Sunday, March 04, 2007

These few days it's been raining heavily in the East, so many of us were forced to whip out umbrellas after school to protect ourselves from the onslaught of the weather. Unfortunately, some of us were unable to get our hands on properly-functioning umbrellas, and hence had to make do with whatever they had at the moment.

This attracted a lot of attention when we passed by the bus stop, during a trip to Thai Pan a couple of days ago. Sasa told us that it was fine in the morning but for some reason 3 of the spokes of the umbrella had broken by the time she next took it out. She thought it might have been because she had thrown it at the classroom door to get it to close this afternoon, though.

Jia Ru said people can be classified into 3 types - the nice, the boring, and the assholes. Which reminded me of what Kenneth (who is from a mixed school) said the other day about boys from boys' schools falling into only 2 categories

the Bengs and the Gentlemen.

O.O
Wow.

I mean. Wow.

Seriously, that is such an accurate summation of the personality of boys in boys' school that I could only stare at him with wide-eyed wonder and go, MAN, you're right! Most of the boys from boys' schools I know seem to have an inherent streak of gentlemanliness (which is actually a word), and treat girls very nicely and all like adhering to the traditonal "ladies first" rule and offering to pay for dinner and all, while those which aren't (small minority) gentlemanly are, well, sort of Beng-ish. Who talk really loudly and wear printed shirts. There are a few in-betweens here and there lah, true, but still. No, honestly, think about it - it's true, isn't it? It's creepily true, how come no one ever noticed this before? Which led me to suspect Kenneth might actually be the Newton of our generation (since Newton noticed the apple falling and everything).

I learnt how to play daidi a few days ago (yes I know, in the past I never did get around to learning it -.-) so now I'm super addicted to card games, what with Bridge and daidi and Heart Attack. Sok Mui, Xinyun, Sasa and I stayed back after school on Friday to play daidi in V48, where we were promptly caught by a young female teacher (and I did not help by looking up and freezing when I saw her in the window and hastily shoved my cards under the table and looked super guilty. Oh my God I need to work on having less of a conscience). After she left we started playing again, but Sasa was very worried for us in case we got caught and got thrown out of school, so she hissed for us to shove all the cards to her in the face of discovery. So sweet :D Since she's going to RJ and all it wouldn't matter for her to get thrown out. And she set up some table formation and laid out props to make it look as if we were having an intense group discussion and not, instead, playing cards like we actually were. Because in VJ you're only allowed to play cards in the treehouses and the student's lounge. Whatever.

Ohh yessss I am entered in the 800m race for Sports Day! *cries* Because Michelle called and sounded really pitiful and I thought, okay lah just enter something, and I picked 800m and now I have to race 2 rounds around the track for Sports Day! My God! But if it's any consolation I discovered that there are no heats for 800m. Because there aren't enough people taking part in 800m to compete in the heats, so have heats for what, everyone just goes straight into the finals. ?!?@#@%^???!! I have to race TWO ROUNDS around the track in front of the whole school?! What the HELL was I thinking? I can't RACE any amount of distance to save my life! Do I have a subconcious death wish??

Argh I want to go shopping and buy a new bag. Jia has 5 bags and that's so many. I'm jealous :(
